Even when it’s hundreds of meters deep, glacier ice is always on the move and is strong enough to literally shape the earth. It was the Ice Age glaciers that carved out Norway’s characteristic fjords, valleys, and steep mountainsides. Remnants of those prehistoric glaciers remain in place today, like the Nigardsbreen seen here in the distance.

Our travel guide promised an easy 60 minute hike to the glacier terminus, but with rough terrain and many creek crossings it took us more than 2 hours to reach the glacier. Exhausting, but definitely worth it!
